Dear Friends, Family, Partners and Co – Workers;
Greetings from Liberia; Another school year is here and we need your help. We are blessed to have a Christian school right on the campus of “The Lord’s Prayer” Children’s Village. All of the TLP children are taken care of for their schooling but right outside our door are thousands of children who do not have the privilege to be in school. I am calling out to many of you to be a blessing to one or more children this school year. The Lord’s Prayer children’s Village is located in a very poor neighborhood where many parents don’t have jobs (85% unemployment). This means the children usually remain at home and out of school and another generation is lost.
Right now, TLP has over 120 applications from young people who are hoping for a chance to attend school through a scholarship. This past week was a tough one for me as I was interviewing the children who applied for scholarships. The stories are so sad to hear at times but I am hopeful that the Lord will make a way for us to help many of these children. I came across a girl during my interview this week and I want to share her story with you.
Five years ago when she was 17 years old, her father died as a result of food poisoning. Her mother is now a single mom caring for 8 children. Three years ago, she was promoted to the 10th grade but since then she has been at home and not going to school. Her mother is too poor to educate any of the children. This girl said to me, “I really want to be educated but there is no way to continue my education as my mother is too poor to help us. Many days when I sit down, I do miss my late father.” After these words, tears came down her beautiful face. This is one of the children you can help to succeed in life – an education is everything.
In Christ,John Kpewoan
